Experienced Contract Producers - Open Applications

Freelancer, Full-time · London

Your mission
London, contract work, hybrid - day rates from £300+
About these openings
We’re looking to build our roster of experienced contract producers at Wonderbly to help us with a range of projects over the next six months and beyond.
We have found that the best people are, unsurprisingly, often very busy and can’t immediately jump on projects with less than a few months notice … therefore we want to hear from people before they are available so we can line up the right projects for them.
If you are an experienced producer, with a background in publishing, children’s media or other related fields who may have availability to work on two day+ per week projects over the next six months please send us your resume and a short note on your expected availability and day rates.
A little bit about you
What you’ll be doing
Some of the projects we expect to commission in the next six months include:
Delivering new books with our existing Story Studio team on a contract basis. This would involve working with artists, writers and the Wonderbly technology and marketing teams to get new books to market. We already have a team of four full time producers working on these projects and you’d be collaborating closely with them. This would suit folks who have worked in and around editorial teams of larger children’s publishing companies.
Working on more complex cross functional projects within the wider Product organisation. This could involve projects to introduce new physical formats to our range or overhauling elements of content across multiple titles. This would suit folks who have worked on consumer facing projects in more complex digital and commercial environments.
Supporting delivery of new books in new publishing categories. This will involve more autonomous work, working directly with our senior leadership team to bring entirely new kinds of personalised books to market, working with designers, writers and researchers. This would suit folks who have worked in non-fiction publishing or in any innovation functions within larger media companies.

If any of these missions sounds exciting to you, please get in touch. For all roles we are looking for:
  • Evidence of ‘hands on’ production experience shipping real products and experiences to market - yes you are organised but you also know how to quickly change tack and when and how to get directly involved in the work!
  • Evidence of managing cross functional projects to demanding deadlines and budgets inside mid sized or larger organisations
  • Evidence of directly managing a variety of creative disciplines within a single project
  • Very strong written communication skills and ability to manage remote teams of digital contributors
  • A passion for books and media - you need to be excited about our category of personalised books!
For the projects involving children’s books and non-fiction grownup books are looking for people with experience working within these editorial categories - if possible, please provide links or portfolio pieces of example books or projects you have bought to market.
Ideally we are looking for producers who can easily attend in person meetings in central London at our studio although we do work with some of our team 100% remotely. If you are remote only please clearly indicate this in your cover note.

About us
Oh hi! We’re delighted that you’re interested in working with Wonderbly, the UK Children’s Publisher of the Year 2021. Below you’ll find out all about us, our mission and values, and the roles we have open right now.

Wonderbly is the world’s leading personalised publishing company. We conceive, design, promote, sell, and make wonderful books for wonderful customers all over the world.

Our mission is to make people feel extraordinarily special, and bring them closer to the people they love, through the power of personalised stories. So far we’ve shipped over 7 million books to over 150 countries. We’ve done this in just eight years, and we’re just getting started.

Getting personalised books to all those millions of customers requires a multidisciplinary team. Our wonderful people have experience across editorial design, research, production, software engineering, marketing, e-commerce, data analysis, print-on-demand manufacturing, shipping… the list goes on.

This means that Wonderbly is a collaborative and creative place to work, with lots of opportunities for growth and development across a broad range of skills.

We’re based in London, where we have a gorgeous, light-filled studio for working together. But like many digital-first companies, we have a hybrid operating model, with many colleagues working from home and further afoot much of the time.

Our values

Wonderbly’s values were born from the three qualities at the heart of ‘Lost My Name’ - our original and best-selling personalised children’s book. These values are Courage, Curiosity and Kindness. And although they naturally have a child-friendly ring to them, these are deeply human values that we believe everyone should live by.

Courage means taking calculated risks and trying things that no one else would. It means setting audacious goals, seeing them through, and being willing to be wrong.

Curiosity means investing in learning, never losing sight of the ‘WHY’. Curiosity allows us to ask silly questions, explore our blind spots, and dip into other disciplines for inspiration.

Kindness is at the heart of our culture: it’s no coincidence that deep friendships form here every day. Kindness means making space for one another, inclusivity as standard, and clear, direct communication. It does not mean “good vibes only”: the kindest conversations are often the hardest.

Equal opportunities employer

Our team is committed to providing equal opportunities for employment regardless of race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, disability, family structure, socio-economic status, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other basis (it's the law, but it's also just the right thing to do).

If you have a disability, caring duties, or any other additional needs that require consideration, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them during the application process.
